In 1989 Sabres goalie, Clint Malarchuck, had his carotid artery severed by another player’s skate. Then this week, in Buffalo, again, a Florida Panthers player, Richard Zednik, had the same thing happen, with the same result. Within seconds, a massive amount of blood poured onto the ice, and miraculously, Zednik managed to skate off the ice before he passed out. Toward the end of the clip one of the commentators says that he’s never seen that much blood that fast, and the other commentator, obviously there nine years ago, says, “…I have.” Thankfully, Zednik is going to be okay.

Oh man, that Malarchuck one is brutal. That most be seared into some poor kids brain who was sitting rink side.
That made me sad and sick. Did Malarchuck die from his injuries? I hate this kind of thing.
