I couldn’t feel any more indifferent about Bing, the new search portal from Microsoft, aka their latest foray in the battle v Google. For me to stop using Google, Microsoft would have had to create a feature within Bing that I need to use everyday, that is so much better than Google’s analog, I wouldn’t be able to live without it. Well, they haven’t done that, not at all.
Bing looks odd, and from what I can tell, there’s no reason to start using it. Search is highly utilitairean when it comes down to it. Yes, it’s amazing what the search engines of today can do when contrasted with the Lycos, Yahoos, and Ask Jeeves of the late 90s, but I just don’t think people think that much about which search engine they use; they’re creatures of habit.I reflexively type g o o g l e .com when I want information getting me to stop doing that is probably about as easy as getting me to pick up a pen with my left hand when I go to write. (I’m right handed)
One area where I do give Bing high marks in in travel itinerary searching; I highly recommend it; You can try it here.
