I am fortunate to work with a guy who has read everything under the sun, what’s more fortunate, we share cynical views and have comparable senses of humor. In other words, I’m inundated with great book recommendations. Last year he introduced me to a writer, George Saunders, who has turned out to be one of my favorites.
Not only does Saunders manage to make you laugh aloud, he makes you think, something that’s easily purported but very difficult to actually achieve. Even the titles of his story collections are brilliant, CivilWarland In Bad Decline, come on, you can’t conjure better imagery than that with a book title.
George has been hitting the promo-pavement hard recently to talk about his new collection of NON-FICTION stories, The Braindead Megaphone. If you haven’t read any of his books before, go to his website and checkout some of his interview clips. He’s a funny guy and they should whet your appetite.
