At this year’s Tour de France, Nike has rolled out Chalkbot, one of the coolest, most brilliant things I have ever seen. The coolest part isn’t the Chalkbot machine itself, a semi-automated truck that sprays chalk messages on the street (orĀ Tour de France course as it were). What’s so cool is how the Chalkbot knows what to spray on the street. It’s not just Nike swooshes, Just do it. or Live Strong. Rather, anyone in the world (maybe not Iran or China) can send an “inspirational” message via Twitter to @chalkbot, and, if they’re lucky, see their message emblazoned in yellow chalk on the Tour de France course for all the riders, spectators, and TV/web viewers around the world to see. It’s an outrageously cool idea that I wish I had thought of.
