Ski Town Symbolically Legalizes Marijuana

I read a funny story this morning about Breckenridge, Colorado passing local legislation that amounts to a symbolic legalization of marijuana. See, marijuana is still illegal in the state of Colorado and the cops in Breckenridge have to enforce state laws over feckless local ordinances.   Apparently, Breckendridge’s permanent residents and the town board decided they’d had enough of the cops constantly busting the teeming population of slovenly bro-down ski/snowboard brahs and chics.

Contrary to what the town “hopes” this gesture will accomplish, I think it’s going to make the cops bust even more kids.

MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION
DENVER (AP) – Voters in Breckenridge are high on pot — or at least legalizing it. A ballot measure passed overwhelmingly yesterday in the Colorado ski town that would legalize marijuana. Voters gave thumbs-up to the proposal to allow adults over 21 to have up to an ounce of pot. But the voters could just be blowing smoke. Marijuana possession is still a state crime for people without medical clearance. Supporters hope the vote sends a message to local authorities about law enforcement priorities.
