Rich People in the Hamptons Don’t Like Helicopters in Their Backyards

I can’t say that I don’t like articles about the inane problems that super rich people deal with because without their ridiculous complaints I wouldn’t have any fodder for posts like this one. You may recall that this winter the occupants of the Plaza Hotel turned luxury apartment building were feeling lonely because the other jet-setting inhabitants of the building are never around. Yeah, that sucks doesn’t it, “I have thousands of square feet of sumptuous apartment and no other rich people to flaunt it to. I am depressed by my wealth, really.”

Anyhow, there was a great little piece this morning about the supposed helicopter problem in the Hamptons. Those with the means, and I can’t blame them for this, who go to the Hamptons, travel by helicopter to avoid the cluster fuck that begins every Friday afternoon as people flock to the serenely pretentious Hammies.

Okay so we get it, the helicopters create some disrupting noise. How large is the problem? It’s tough to say, the article I read didn’t offer any quantitative analysis, only Chuck Schumer’s contextless comment, “They’ve gone unchecked, un-regulated and unrestrained, but 2008 is the year we fight back.” Yeah, Chuck. You tell ‘em.

The meat of the article is here, though:

“‘It’s the easiest way to get in and out of New York on the weekend,’ said retired investment banker Peter Wadsworth. ‘If I was still working on Wall Street, I’d be doing it too.’”

“But Wadsworth said he first became annoyed by the staccato of helicopter blades while sitting in his hot tub years ago.”

People…Mr. Wadsworth has spoken.

Jesus. What a bunch of dumb fucks. I’m sorry, Schumer, what did you say? It’s hard to understand you with all of those RICH DICKS IN YOUR MOUTH. When I’m super wealthy, you can believe I will find a better place to go than the dumb-ass Hamptons.
