Hope in the Unlikeliest of Places

I know that I may bend in the direction of the naysayer on this blog sometimes. As in, the city only gets it wrong, we’re dirty, we build too many buildings, New Yorkers are assholes, etc. But, every once in a while I find something that is so great and positive and triumphant that it makes me rethink my knee jerk neg-head reactions.

Case in point, check out this picture that someone took of a peregrine falcon outside of their apartment on the Lower East Side in Manhattan. This bird looks like it has it all figured out; eyes keen and sage. It’s incredibly cool that a creature, which is able to dive bomb other birds out of the sky at 200 mph, is sitting there all “Oh, hello” like on an air conditioner in the midst of the urban chaos. Pictures like these are why there is that terribly hackneyed adage you might have heard about photos saying much more than words.

If you want to comment why don’t you write what the bird might be saying to him or herself.

I think the bird might be saying, “Hey Mike, it’s not that New Yorkers are assholes, it’s that you ALL are assholes.”

Very corny, but that bird is all “Aw shucks.”
