I didn’t think much of my brother playing the new MGMT for me the other day, then this morning I read it’s not scheduled to come out for another few weeks. In other words, it leaked, to use the parlance of the piracy age.
I commend the MGMT guys for the frankness of their obliquely bitter response:
“Hey everybody, the album leaked, and we wanted you to be able to hear it from us. We wanted to offer it as a free download but that didn’t make sense to anyone but us”
