Citibank is Going in the Shitter–yes. Green–no.
I was driving home on the FDR last night, enjoying the sites of the Brooklyn and Queens waterfronts when something caught my eye: the giant Citibank building came into full view, predominating Long Island City’s skyline in all of its monolithic imperiousness. Here’s what bothers me about it, other than its complete disregard for the scale of its environs. The goddamn thing was about 95% lit up. It looked like almost every light in the building was on. At 11 pm on a Friday night. Why?
I know a lot of Citibank employees are probably afraid their jobs are in peril, which they are, more and more, with each daily slip of the “markets” and new, dire news from Mr. Bernake. However, I doubt they were all at work, that late on a Friday night. Yes, I know cleaning crews come in, but not that many all at once.
I’ll report back tonight with an update.

You would think, actually, that as tight as things are for them right now, they would want to conserve.
Funny. All that shiny, glowy, wondery goodness is the only reason I’ve been considering a switch from Bank of Stuperica. Truly.
