Yes, Lady Gaga, You’re Interesting

I think it’s silly that someone who’s shilling for a pair of signature headphones is considered anything more than an overproduced, plastic pop act. Apparently being homely and cagey about your sexual orientation is enough to get attention these days. Hmm.

Norman Greenbaum, Spirit In The Sky = Face Melter

This song was in my head for months–literally–before I finally heard it a few days ago in some movie credits, took note of some of the lyrics, and with the aid of the Googles, tracked down within 2 minutes. For all intents and purposes, Spirit In The Sky is the only song for which Greenbaum [...]

A Fine Thursday Indeed

So, I am off to the great green arboreal land that lies to the North, The Adirondacks, for the next 3 days. I’ll post some photos when I get back. I plan on catching a lot of smallmouth bass and slugging a lot of beer.
Here’s a little gem I came across by chance this afternoon [...]

“The” Led Zeppelin

I stumbled onto this absolute gem of a video clip today while perusing the endless live snippets of Zeppelin on YouTube. It’s an interview that John Bonham and Robert Plant gave just before coming to the US for Led Zeppelin’s huge MSG show in 1970. The two newsmen are a perfect example of the default [...]

Grizzly Bear Two Weeks

A few days ago my brother, some of his friends, and I were discussing the dearth of really good albums out there right now. 2005-2007 were packed with awesome debuts, sophomore, and follow-up records, but now it looks like the music business is going through a revaluation similar to what has been happening with our [...]

Cool Young Folks (Peter Bjorn and John) Cover by Dawn Landes

Up until about 30 minutes ago I had never heard of this chanteuse who goes by the name Dawn Landes. She’s a pretty woman who does light and poppy folksy tunes. I’m guessing that like me, you too have never heard of her.
Well, here she is doing her blue-grassish rendition of a song you most [...]

I’m Out, Britney Spears Style

I’ll be the first to admit that I like the new Britney Spears. She’s realer and more fun to watch than a lot of other famous people. She’s also incredibly unpredictable. Granted, much of that is probably owed to her misfortune of being bipolar.
Check out the way she signs off with the crowd at a [...]

Clapton Joins Allman Cover “Little Wing”

Unfortunately I didn’t wind up finding a ticket to last night’s Allman Brothers show at the Beacon. I’m not a huge Allman Brothers fan to be honest but I knew, given the lineup of guests that had been playing with them all week, another guitar god showdown was sure to go down.
This morning I poked [...]

New Apple Shuffle Released to Zero Fanfare

My brother, and overseer of the blog Eternity With Nerds, has a pretty strong distaste for Apple products. He, like another blogger-friend, Jose El Retardo, doesn’t care for the way Apple bundles products and peripherals and blocks them from being modified or upgraded. You want an iPod or Mac Book with more memory? Buy a [...]

Pitchfork Has A New Site But Probably Kept The Douche Bags

Unless you read Pitchfork for actual enjoyment, or, like I do, to enrage myself, this post doesn’t apply. Apologies.
Anyhow, the coxcombs who run Pitchfork and purvey incredibly self-fellating, logorrheic reviews of music, have given the site a much-welcomed reboot. It actually looks pretty nice, music reviews notwithstanding.
Not all of what’s been improved on Pitchfork 2.0 [...]
