My perspicatious ear has spotted another separated-at-birth song combo. This time it’s the new track Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) off Arcade Fire’s new record, Suburbs and Blondie’s uber classic, Heart of Glass. The similarity breaks down in the chorus, but the verse structures are very similar, in a good way. It’s a killer song, [...]

Self description: I’m good at identifying similarities in structure and melody between songs.
My latest discovery is Marshall Tucker Band’s Can’t You See and Velvet Underground’s Oh, Sweet Nuthin (which will also totally make you realize the Dead were influenced by VU).
You be the judge:

For all their douchebagery, at least when Pitchfork posts something about a band there’s usually some hook: a new song, a live video, an interview, tour dates, etc. Apparently, though, when you’re a reclusive, highly successful band like Arcade Fire, it doesn’t take much to get in the music news.
What exactly is the point of [...]

2 quick nonessential observations;
I read today that Hollywood is apparently losing its appetite for overly plastic surgeried women. Fake boobs and taught lips are on their way out as casting directors begin to look for natural sag and those actors who rock what they’re born with. This made me think about all of the young, [...]
Ladies and gentleman, Mr. Scott Stapp’s custom song he created for his beloved Florida Marlins. You can’t even make stuff like this up, people.

I didn’t think much of my brother playing the new MGMT for me the other day, then this morning I read it’s not scheduled to come out for another few weeks. In other words, it leaked, to use the parlance of the piracy age.
I commend the MGMT guys for the frankness of their obliquely bitter [...]

This is just imeasurably embarassing. I hope for his sake it was a joke.
Behold.

I know the band recommendation I’m about to put forth won’t resonate with errrbody. The kind of music they make is basically disco, which as a musical chapter, is not remembered fondly and didn’t end very well.
Music Go Music is an ensemble, modern disco outfit helmed by the husband/wife duo behind the overlooked band Bodies [...]

This Gucci Mane song (that I found via Pitchfork’s best songs of 2009 mix) reminds me of the really good, old Hot Boys stuff. As ludicrous is the song is, it’s kind of great.

And for good measure, here’s some old Hot Boys.

It’s no secret that I’m no fan of Lady Ga Ga and whatever transmogrified version of a pop start she’s supposed to be. She is a barfy talentless poser as far as I’m concerned. And now that that’s out of the way we can get to it:
Here’s a video of Christopher Walken reading a snippet [...]
